Turtles, all the way down

I made this diagram for a paper but the main author doesn’t like it, feeling that the color is too dramatic. That’s too bad because I find it visually pleasing. It looks like something you’d see in Sky and Telescope.

What’s plotted is density of retrograde labeled cells in the frontal cortex. No, it has nothing to do with blackholes and dark matter.
